The Subjunctive Mood in English and Spanish - A Comparative Analysis

The following guidelines will help you and your team:

1. Organise yourselves in teams of three or four. You can work collaboratively through Google Hangout, Google Drive, Skype, Facebook or any other application you may find useful. Each member of the team will have a role. You can find out about team organization and work on the following page: http://www.tms.com.au/tms07.html

2. Read the instructions and divide your work among team members. 

3. The first part of report will be on the subjunctive mood in your native language. You will include a definition of the subjunctive mood, a definition of the indicative mood, a comparison between both moods, syntactic descriptions in terms of predicates, subordination, tenses, inflection and any other relevant feature, and semantic descriptions as well.

4. The second part of the report will be on the subjunctive mood in the foreign language, following the same criteria in point 3.

5. The final part of the report will include a detailed comparison of what you found in points 3 and 4, examples of equivalents or translations in both languagues that have the same meaning, and, most importantly, your reflexion on why people use the subjunctive the way they do and why the subjunctive is so challenging or difficult to use appropiately or to use at all.

6. The final report will have a cover page consisting of the research topic, the teams members, the date and the teacher's name. The second page will have the table of contents, which will be numbered according to each page. The third page will have the introduction to the reaserch topic. The body of your reasearch will follow, which will consist of as many pages as you may consider appropriate. Take into account points 3-5. The reflexive essay will be included in a separate page as a conclusion. Following the conclusion, the bibliography page will be included, with all the sources used meantioned alphabetically.

7. Additional and format requirements: 

a. The body of the research must reflect your own analysis or development. You are not allowed to plagiarise.

b. The body of the report should be typed in double spacing and the size of the letters should be 12.

8. You will be graded as a team, so it is important that all the members work actively and collaboratively.

9. You will submit your final report in the folder on this Google Drive. If you have created a blog or a SlideSpeech presentation, you will add the link to your work to this Google doc. Permission to add you work must be given first in both cases.
