Conclusion
Your lesson not only demonstrates your complete understanding of the element of language you have taught, but it also offers an excellent tool for another to use to learn about an element of language. With your help, your classmates will be able to reach those who cannot physically get to school due to circumstances beyond their control.
The main aim for this web quest is to have students research the main elements of language and to explore their uses in different circumstances.

Introduction
A very bad earthquake has destroyed most of San Salvador, destroying many of the area streets and highways, cutting off much of the school's population from the school building.
The highway department estimates that it will be months before traffic can go back to normal. The MINED has decided that if fewer than 85% of the students receive instruction on a daily basis, the entire student body will be required to make up the missed days.
Colegio La Floresta decides to create a series of online lessons which students can access via computers in their homes, community centers, or area libraries. If they complete these lessons, the missed school days will not have to be made up.
The Task
Your job is to create a PowerPoint presentation which will teach one of the following elements of language:
Image | Simile | Metaphor | Personification | Analogy |
Symbol | Allusion | Euphemism | Onomatopoeia | Alliteration |
These online lessons should not only be informative, but they should also be attractive and engaging; or students will not be interested in viewing them.
The Process
1. You will be assigned to a group of 2 or 3 students.
2. Your group will be assigned one of the following elements of language to be covered in your lesson.
Image | Simile | Metaphor | Personification | Analogy |
Symbol | Allusion | Euphemism | Onomatopoeia | Alliteration |
3. Make sure everyone in the group thoroughly understands the element that your presentation must teach. You may want to refresh your memories or check for accuracy of understanding by looking in the glossary of a literature anthology or visiting the web site below:
4. Create a PowerPoint or prezi presentation containing the elements listed below in the order they are listed:
- concept attainment activity with at least 5 "yes" models and 3 "no" models
- a clear and detailed definition of your element of language
- 3 samples of lines from poems which contain your element of language; be sure to highlight the element within the lines of text
- 1 full text of a 10 to 15 line poem containing repeated use of the element of language you are teaching. Highlight the element of language each time it appears within the text.
- a paragraph explaining the overall effect within the poem of the element of language you are teaching
Remember to make your presentation instructional as well as visually appealing.
